Switzerland is home to a wide variety of ski resorts, a large number of which are considered to be among the most popular ski resorts in Europe. Swiss ski resorts offer spectacular scenery and most of the resorts have been built up around mountain villages and offer a traditional atmosphere. Most relevant to skiers is also the average altitude of the country's ski slopes, they are high and relatively snow-sure, with plenty of glacier skiing. Switzerland's skiing is concentrated in several distinct regions. Easiest to reach are the Vaud and Valais resorts in the southwest, as well as the line of resorts from Lake Geneva towards central Switzerland consisting of Portes du Soleil, Villars, Verbier, Zermatt and Saas Fee. To the north of the Bernese Oberland, the vast mountain massive that divides the north of the country from the south, is the Jungfrau region's Grindewald and plenty of smaller resorts. Graubünden in the east is home to big names such as Davos, Klosters and St. Moritz as well as many lesser known resorts. Some of the most famous Swiss ski resorts are based in St. Moritz, Zermatt, Verbier, Grans Montana and Wengen. However the list doesn't end here.
