The ski resorts of Chile and Argentina offers some outstanding skiing with untracked powder and deserted slopes. Some of the best off pist terrain in the world can be found in South America. Chile and Argentina are not the only place to ski in South America. The northern Andes of Peru offer ski mountaineering, but there are no ski resorts. Equador, Bolivia and Venezuela have smaller ski areas but the tropical environments surrounding them often prohibits great skiing conditions. Equador's four highest peaks, Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Cayambe and Antisana tempt adventurers with huts at 4500-5000 m, and long descents. There is a considerable avalanche danger, and navigating around large crevasses make these peaks to dangerous for the average skier. Venezuela's one established ski area, Merida, offers one lift and one cable car on Mirror Peak topping at 4766 meters, but conditions for skiing are not especially good.
